The 10 best websites for graphic design students

Posted by on May 13, 2015 in Graphics HND news | No Comments

Effective, engaging communication design comes from consideration for who will be looking at it, an understanding of how the human eye and brain work together to identify shape, colour and texture, and an ability to organise design elements for clarity and ease of use. The websites I have selected have been chosen because they provide […]

experiments with type

This morning we’ve been playing around with type. The brief is to make a typographic interaction with the environment which communicates or illuminates a ‘truth’ or aphorism. There are no other  restrictions apart from the deadline. Here’s a hairy example.

West Meets East / West Eats Meats?

A fire at Twickenham station couldn’t stop us from reaching East London (OK half of us live there already, but still). We visited the YCN office on Rivington street to get an introduction to their varied work from Jennie. The focus was on this years Student Awards Briefs but also covered the opportunities presented through […]

Finance – student loans and tuition fees

One of the main questions asked by prospective student is – “can I apply for a student loan?” The answer is a resounding “YES!” – you can apply for any loan, grant or funding normally associated with Higher Education. This opportunity isn’t just for College leavers either, in fact most of our adult learners take […]

Something Spooky

Year One students were set a challenge. Things got spooky. Two teams were formed and the gauntlet was laid down: “YOU HAVE TWO DAYS TO PLAN, WRITE, SHOOT AND EDIT A SCARY FILM!” – a voice boomed from the shadows. So without any prior experience of film that is exactly what they did; the results […]

It would be interesting to try an image and use the simple invert tool in Photoshop to create a negative. (They have an app for creating negatives but if it […]

Sticker type

Many possibilities from the sticker shapes, and I could spend lots more time playing with the form of the letters. The thick thin of the P, M, N,W and R are my favourites. I quite like the x but its annoying that it’s not tall enough. The S is a bit dodgy too.

Filling the time when the internet is down
